It's quite simple really. the motive behind most unsolicited junk, whether email or popups on the web, is to get money out of you. Most commonly, this is by :
- selling you something
- conning you into putting money into some scam
- "phishing" for your personal details
In many cases, the email addresses or URL links offered to allow you to "unsubscribe" (not that you probably subscribed in the first place) don't go anywhere. When they do work, they are only used by the perpetrators to confirm that you exist - so they can send you more junk!
Mind you, I am amazed by the lengths to which these people will go to get around your attempts to stop them! Surely, if you set up a junk filter and/or install a popup blocker, you are making your wishes clear. What makes them think that pushing their way past your defences will endear them to you?
But the crazy thing is that some people do fall for it and send their money! The solution is easy. These emails and popups take time and money to produce. If nobody ever bought anything from them, they would go out of business.
So, there is your solution - just delete them all. Don't buy anything, don't even respond - and make sure that you tell everyone around you to do the same!
